That’s Mental

short film screenings

There was red carpet, popcorn and choc tops at the launch of That’s Mental at Thornbury Picture House.

That’s Mental is a youth-led storytelling project supporting young people to create short films about their lived experience. Our first seven participants took on big themes like grief, identity, advocacy, and living with mental health challenges.

Working alongside creative director Sylvie Meltzer at the Satellite Foundation, we designed a process that gave each young person space to share their story in a way that felt empowering and resonant for other people their age.

The seven films that launch That’s Mental span animation, phone footage, and documentary. Most importantly, each one feels true to the voice and personality of its narrator.

The films will now be shared in schools, workshops, and at Satellite camps, connecting young people with others who ‘get it’ and starting important conversations.
